Passiontide and Easter events

Our special Holy Week and Easter events began on Palm Sunday evening when the Goldsmith Players (our drama group) presented three short dramatic scenes from “The House at Bethany”, by Alan Poole, “Disciples in Secret” by Don Mueller, and “Two Mothers” also by Don Mueller. These presentations were repeated the following Monday, 14th, April. Refreshments, provided by the Belgravians, were enjoyed after the productions on both evenings.

On the Thursday evening of Holy Week (17th April) our minister led a Tenebrae Service during which candles were successively extinguished zs the narrative of the Passiontide story was told through Bible readings. The service, which included communion, concluded with one candle being re-lit, recalling the hope of Easter Day.

At 12 noon on Good Friday we had a Service of the Nails (including Holy Communion) and, at 7.30 on that evening, the choir led a service of Passiontide Music and Reflections.

On Easter Sunday we had an Easter Breakfast together at 9.00 am followed by a short service of Holy Communion. We were hoping that this would be held outside in our new garden area, but the cold, wet weather meant that we stayed inside, using our new fellowship space instead. This was followed by our all-age celebration of Easter at our normal worship time of 11 o’clock. This was a joyous service including thoughtful readings and an Easter egg hunt!

Thanks to everyone who prepared for and led our wonderful Passiontide and Easter services and activities.
