URC 50th Anniversary Service

On Saturday 15th April 6 the celebration of 50 years of the URC took place in the Methodist Central Hall, London. Six of our church members were part of a congregation of several hundred in the hall where the URC was formed on October 5, 1972.

The service included music specially written for the occasion and three short sermons given by Revd Dr David Cornick (former URC General Secretary and former General Secretary of Churches Together in England), Victoria Turner (a Tutor in Ecumenism in Edinburgh University) and Revd Professor Jooseop Keum (General Secretary of the Council for World Mission).

The service culminated in Holy Communion with communion glasses the gift of the Evangelische Kirche der Pfalz in Germany whose partnership with the URC long predates the creation of the URC. We were invited to take our communion glass home with us as a memento of the occasion and one of our members gifted a glass (see photograph above) to the church.
