Easter services and activities

Passiontide and Easter were celebrated with a number of special services and activities at church.

Holy Week began with Sunday worship on Palm Sunday which incorporated a series of short dramatised scenes given by the Goldsmith Players (our church drama group) linked with bible readings.

On Thursday evening, we had a Tenebrae service and, on Good Friday, we had a Service of the Nails at 12 noon and a presentation by the church choir in the evening. This was a service of music for passiontide and readings linking Old Testament prophesies with passages from the New Testament which record their fulfillment.

Today we had a joyous all-age communion service after a lovely Easter breakfast.

Thank you to everyone who prepared, organised, led and contributed to these services and events.

Light Night 2016

Light Night on 5th February was a great success.

It is estimated that well over 200 visitors came through the doors to experience the wide range of entertainment and activities on offer in the various spaces in our church and halls.

The choir had an open practice in the sanctuary and were then joined by visitors and friends to prepare and then perform a number of items from that musical which were well received by those who came just to listen. This practice was bounded by two presentations by our church Ukulele Group. Playing eight songs in all, this group (which has an age range of about seventy years) was encouraged by enthusiastic singing by the “audience” and, again was well appreciated. Earlier in the the church, Jacob G. had given a circus skills performance and then given tuition and advice to the many children who had watched him and were trying out the various activities including juggling, plate spinning and unicycle riding. Later, a good number of people stayed to hear Peter N. perform a number of rock classics and a self-penned song with friends with school friends.

In the halls the family-friendly cafe was busy all evening and good audiences supported the belly dancers  and the gamelan group which performed and led workshops in the Fellowship Room.

There was a range of displays for visitors and friends to look at, including some in the church about significant past church members, about the history of our church (as the building celebrates it 150th anniversary) and about the Nottingham Interfaith Council. Visitors had the opportunity to post prayers on our prayer tree and these will now be shared with our prayer circle.

We are grateful to Jill G. who coordinated the Light Night event for us again this year, to all those who helped Jill in the organisation of the event and who prepared for and led activities and to everyone who assisted on the night or joined us to make this such a good evening. Thank you.

Each one enjoying the amazing display of the different types of bobbin and needle lace, there were over 300 pieces of lace.   The exhibits of antique machine lace panels included the facsimile of the ‘Battle of Britain’ panel, as the original is becoming very fragile this has been made so it can be seen for many generations to come, and sample books of lace from the archives. There were lace dresses including Dorothy’s Witchcraft lace wedding dress.

So many visitors had travelled from all parts of the country in fact visitors to Nottingham from all over the world coming to see the exhibition all remarking about the beautiful exhibits and lovely friendly atmosphere the church had. Thank you to Lorna R and everyone whose hard work made this exhibition possible.
