Harvest Festival Service 2019

Our Junior Church led a lively and challenging service for our Harvest Festival this year, reflecting on the need for everyone to respect and care for the environment, taking the theme: no-one is too small to make a difference.

Our Primary & Beginners and Junior Departments asked us to think about wild flowers and the many crops which rely on bees and other polinating insects, our Seniors adapted Monty Python’s Cheese Shop sketch to give us “The Food Shop” and our Youth Group gave us The Seed Story and magic bread. The service also included the presentation of the John Muir Award to our Junior Church.

Thank you to everyone who participated.

Harvest Festival 2018

Our Harvest Festival Service this year was also our “Orchestra Sunday” when we gave thanks to God for all His gifts to us. The wonderful floral displays celebrated music as well as the abundance of creation.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this special service, especially to those who gave their time to create the displays, to prepare the music and to those who travelled so far to join us.

Harvest Gifts were donated to The Friary and floral arrangements were taken out to members of our fellowship who were not able to be with us.

Harvest 2016

Our Junior Church presented a super service about the “harvest of the sea” for our festival service this year. They took us to the seaside, they reminded us that it is “not just the fishes” that we harvest from the sea, they talked about salt, power from the sea and precious pearls.

Thank you to everyone who planned and took part in the service.

Thank you, also, to everyone who helped to decorate the church so beautifully in readiness for the service.

Flowers were arranged on the communion table to make it look like a coral reef and there were further displays related to our theme in the vestibule.

Harvest Festival 2014

2014-10-12 11.06.25

We had a delightful and joyful Harvest Festival service lead by our Junior Church and Youth Group on 12th October.
They led our thoughts focusing on the theme of “bread” and we all had the chance to taste some of the wide variety of breads that are available to us these days.

Thank you to everyone who took part and to all who decorated the church so beautifully.

Thanks too, to everyone who brought gifts for harvest – these were donated to The Friary (formerly the Friary Drop-in Centre).

Harvest Festival Celebrations 2013

Our harvest festival celebrations began with an augmented choir singing the John Rutter anthem, Look at the World and the verses of this anthem provided the structure for our service, with each section being introduced by the reading of the next verse of the anthem. Here are the words:

Look at the world, everything all around us
Look at the world and marvel every day.
Look at the world: so many joys and wonders,
So many miracles along our way

Chorus: Praise to thee, O lord for all creation.
Give us thankful hearts that we may see
All the gifts we share, and every blessing,
All things come of thee.

Look at the earth bringing forth fruit and flower,
Look at the sky the sunshine and the rain.
Look at the hills, look at the trees and mountains,
Valley and flowing river, field and plain.

Think of the spring, think of the warmth of summer
Bringing the harvest before winter’s cold.
Everything grows, everything has a season,
till it is gathered to the Father’s fold:

Every good gift, all that we need and cherish.
Comes from the Lord in token of his love
We are his hands, stewards of all his bounty
His is the earth and his the heavens above.

The service included contributions from many of the children and a short dramatic dialogue and a variety of music.

The church and vestibule were beautifully decorated and afterwards pot plants were taken out to some of the more elderly members of the congregation and the harvest produce shared between Framework and The Friary.

Harvest Festival 2012

The Junior Church and Youth Group led our Harvest Festival service this year on the theme of plants – leading our thinking about the importance of plants in our lives and the many different ways they help us. Their entertaining and thoughtful presentations referred to the uses of plants in medicine, clothing, furniture, building, cosmetics and many various household products as well as food.

The flower arrangements around the church also picked up on the theme of plants and their many uses.

Harvest 2011

We had a joyful Harvest Festival Service on 16th October.

The theme, this year, was the Harvest of the Sea and our all-age service involved our children andyoung people as well as our older members.

The church was beautifully decorated, with the flower arrangers managing to produce displays to match the theme well. Flowers were distrubuted to members of the church family while gifts of food were donated to the Friary Drop-In Centre in West Bridgford.
