Light Night 2020

Light Night 2020

Our church was an Entertainment Hub for Nottingham’s Light Night on 7th February 2020.

During the evening there was a wide range of musical and other entertainment with family meals and refreshments available. Music sessions included a ukulele “come and strum” sing-a-long, a jazz band with students from NTU, a dance workshop with NTU’s Hop Hop and Dancehall Dance Society, the Redhill Academy vocal group, instrumental recitals, Ravenshead Swing Band, the Teremok Russian School dance group, Kuderushki (a Russian Folk Group), anthems sung by the Church Choir and a “come and sing” songs from Les Miserables with our church choir.

The evening was very well-supported throughout the evening, with the many visitors providing good audiences for each of our entertainment groups.

Thank you to all the performers and to everyone who helped to prepare and serve the wonderful refreshments – cakes, teas, coffees and meals throughout the evening. And none of this would be possible without everyone who worked so hard to prepare for the evening and all our hard-working stewards, some of who braved the cold February evening outside the church to direct visitors.

Carols in the Courtyard 2015

For the first time, we held our community carol singing in the new courtyard of the church and we were delighted to be joined by a number of visitors.

This was a super location for this event and the singing and refreshments were very much enjoyed by all who attended, The new venue enabled some to remain sheltered, just inside our Fellowship Room whilst still being able to hear and join in the carols. Perhaps because we were not quite so spread-out as we had been when we used the car park, the singing seemed to be even better than usual.

Carols in the car park 2013

The weather was very kind and attendance was good for our annual “Carols in the Car Park” on the evening of 8th December. Members, friends and students alike enjoyed singing a mix of traditional and modern carols as well as the refreshments – mince pies and various cakes, coffee and mulled wine.

“Student Project”

The church has been successful in its application for a Special Category Minister post to work with students in Nottingham.

The person who takes up this post will work part of the time as chaplain to international students at the Nottingham Trent University and, for the rest of the time, work to support international and national students at the city’s universities and colleges of further education.

Student Lunch (October 2010)

The first of our Student Lunches for this academic year took place today. We are planning to hold these once a month again this year.

The lunch followed a service in which we welcomed a speaker who works with a Christian Aid partner in Brazil.

International Students research project

With the support of some funding from the East Midlands Synod of the URC, our church has commissioned a research project to investigate how we might support students, particularly international students who are studying at one of the higher education establishments in our city. The church received a presentation and written report of the outcome of the research in September and we are now planning our response.
